We have always operated on volunteer power, and if anyone out there would like to run open hours on Wed, we will give you training and the lock combo!

I think there is an assumption out there that we are a professional operation. (Which must mean we did a great job for many years!) This is and has always been a 100% volunteer project, and there are natural limits to what we can do.

Volunteer efforts like ours were the groundswell that preceded GrowNYC's citywide programs. Their hours in the Greenmarket, while limited in a way, now allow a much larger amount of diversion to happen than we could ever have expected to happen on our small site. The net gain is impressive and we are proud!

I'm really disappointed that you don't keep hours for drop offs during the week. I can't always make it to the Greenmarket and I've got a big pile of veggy scraps that I need to get to a compost today.

Sincerely

Hey Guys! I absolutely love what you're doing. The world needs more projects like yours. So you compost everything in a community park? Once you make the compost, do you sell it or give it away to all of your 400 members? Looking forward to learning more. Keep up the wonderful work.

I'll be presenting a proposal about bike carting to the Community
Board 8 Sanitation and Environmental Committee on February 21st at 7
PM. The location is the Center for Nursing and Rehab (recently
renamed "CenterLight") Board Room, 727 Classon Avenue, between Park
Place and Prospect Place.
Bike carting is now being done in Williamsburg, in Northhampton MA and
Philadelphia.
Picking up the organic wastes from restaurants, coffee bars and juice
bars in our neighborhoods with bike carts and converting these
materials to compost will create living wage jobs for under-employed
youth in our communities, decrease the truck traffic on our congested
streets and provide much needed compost for community gardens.
To find out how we can make this happen in North Central Brooklyn, I
would encourage all community gardeners to attend this presentation.
Questions: email me at gn.todd@verizon.net
