Thank you sweet rainstorms of mid-July. Dust bowl conditions in McCarren have been abated! The dogs are refreshed, the farmers are happy, and the gardeners are done lugging water for the moment…and if our lovely worms could smile, you bet they would be smiling. READ ON FOR SOME IMPORTANT UPDATES!

#1 THIS SATURDAY, JULY 17 – Composting Demo at the McCarren Greenmarket. Starting at 11 am! NBCP’s founding member Kate Zidar will be doing a demo about the basics of composting and our awesome little project. Look for her on the blue tarp. She’ll be the one with the compost.

#2 This Sunday, JULY 18, NBPC Potluck Picnic Social! Break out those deviled eggs, potato salads, pies, ice cream and lemonades!  Starting at noon,  we will be gathering in McCarren Park in the leafy area along Driggs Avenue (right across the street from the dog run and compost site).  It is a potluck affair so bring a dish/cold beverage to share. This will be a casual get-to-know your fellow composters event, and is totally and absolutely open to non-NBCPers, so bring  friends, families, and foes.  Ball games, Frisbees, bocce, horseshoes, guitars and banjos, and anything else that’s playable should come with you, too.

#3 New member orientation – 7/21 and 7/28 at 7 pm! Tiffany T will conduct two new member orientations on Wednesday, June 21 and June 28th.   This is your opportunity to learn the whats, whys and whynots.

#4 Call for browns! We are in a need of dry leaves and clean, untreated sawdust/wood shavings! If you have a yard, are woodworker or have another kind of hook up, give us your browns any time during open hours.
